Dept and Fronteers present: the European premiere of Hanzi, a film about international design, visual culture, identity and Chinese typography.

What is Hanzi?

Directed by Mu-Ming Tsai, Hanzi is a feature-length documentary exploring international design, visual culture and identity through the lens of modern Chinese typography.

Hanzi features interviews with people from the US, UK, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan. From Westerners learning Chinese to the maker of Chineasy.

They also filmed at the last traditional Chinese letterpress type foundry in the world, and talked to Japanese type designer Akira Koyabashi (see his Smashing interview).

The premiere is hosted at the Dept offices in Rotterdam, right next to the city's Centraal Station:

The film will start ~ 20:00, there will be drinks before and after.
